Wednesday
Here we go. One Jaguar
4.2 Litre XJ6 with a four speed manual gearbox
We're underway. First
thing was to get the insides out.
The Jaguar came off the
production line and was somebody's pride and joy. Through
the ravages of time some of the floor looks like, and has
the consistency of a teabag. To restore this car would be
like triggers broom in Only Fools and Horses. You would have
to replace everything. The Engine is seized so we need to
get the old one out and put back in last years engine and
gearbox. 5 speed manual even better!
Thursday
No visible change to the
car but more work in removing all the wiring, the window
glass and the two petrol tanks. About 20 bolts to get to and
remove each tank. Removed the tow bar and had another look
at the drivers foot well. Oh dear. Not much metal left so
we're going to have to weld in a new floor otherwise you
could move the car like Fred Flintstone would.
Wednesday 5th 7
weeks to go.
The next task was the
driver foot well. On closer inspection, with a large hammer
and Sharpe pokey thing it was decided that a tea bag was
actually stronger so off we went to buy some 3mm mild steel
to make the floor safe and apparently I was going to be allowed
to do some welding. That should be fun!!! There would also
be some welding at the bulkhead where the accelerator peddle
would need to be attached because it was mainly rust and
fresh air. Can't weld either fresh air or rust. Another job
was to make some engine mountings for when the transplant
takes place.
Wednesday 12th.
All the welding is done.
Wednesday is engine transplant day. Well it would have been
if we hadn't found more holes that need welding. Chassis
this time. And also the small area where the anti roll bar
connects to chassis. Well should connect. And the seem along
the passenger side floor. Oh dear! Never mind, out with the
engine from 2009's car and into 2010's car.
Top left, Hole by anti
roll bar. Arghh. Top Right Chassis.
One down Left, Chassis,
Right, passenger floor
Two down left, 2009 car
with engine, Right, 2009 no engine
Bottom left, Nearly
there, Right, It's in.
Gearbox mountings bolted
in. Rear axel bolted in
So next jobs. The Clutch
needs to be fitted. Pedal box needs fitting. Welding
passenger floor although you need metal to
weld...so......brakes need sorting out, fuel lines
Friday 21st
Time to put in the roll
cage. Not as easy a job as you think especially when it's as
hot as it is today.
Door plate also to
fit and probably find some more welding to do as we start
using the hitometere very hard.
Bonnet placed and
bolted down. The water tank has been taken out of last years
car fitted into this years.
Holes drilled for the
seat belts.
Jobs for next time.
Tuesday evening. Electrics need to be installed and then
maybe we can see if the engine still works.
Tuesday 25th
The electrics went in.
The fuel tank is in and it runs. Need some wheel stubs
.Painting started.
